Ancient B.C. footprints confirmed as earliest known in North America

Calvert Island, British Columbia dig site

The footprints appear to have been left by the bare feet of people gathered around a focal point, likely a fire pit or hearth. A set of footprints provides a snapshot of a figure standing with feet slightly apart and facing inland, possibly with his or her back to the prevailing winds.
